Default Beware of this scam

I was on last night and it was the second time someone tried pawning off a "perfect" furious sword on me. His name was ***NAME EDITED*** and he was spamming Droks saying he had a 10/10 furious mod for 20k. When he opened a trade window, he placed a blue, non-max sword with 10% furious.

Do not buy these swords.
They are from either a quest or collector, can not be salvaged and are not worth anything. If there is a perfect mod on anything that's white or blue and not maxed, be suspicious. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Puting names in is against Forum policies... you may want to edit that out before a mod has to do it for you.

Why though.. would you want a non max sword anyways?

And if he was telling the truth, it would be as a UPGRADE, not a whole sword from Ascalon.

You would want the non-max sword to salvage the upgrade component.

it isnt exactly a scam.a scam would be him telling you that is was an extremely lucky drop and can be salvaged.from what i see he is selling a 13-19 10/10 furious sword with +25 hp for 20k.once he lies it becomes a scam.

Chaos is right. He is selling what he advertised. Let the buyer beware. Not every stupid mistake you make in trading is because some scammer was out to get you. Sometimes it's because your greed got you all excited, you quit thinking and did something stupid. The text pop-up on mouse-over is there for a reason. Use it.

You can tell it's not a mod when he puts a sword in the window. He may be trying to scam or he may just be a stooge who doesn't know what he's talking about. Either way, never buy an unsalvaged mod, there is no guarantee you're gonna get it. Every damn hale staff I've salvaged has either given me the crappy mod or crafting items (bah, my bad luck). So if I bought one thinking I was going to get the mod for sure, I'm just being foolish. Part of the cost of paying for the mod is the fact that someone else took the risk to salvage it.

There's nothing wrong with buying unsalvaged mods, as some people like to gamble. It's the chance you take.

However, the real problem that quest/collector weapons aren't really labeled as such on the actual weapon description. Something added to the description like "Unsalvageable" would be so helpful.

Rofl that is an awesome auction... First he claims he doesn't know if it will work and "All I can do is be honest in my ignorance" and then he goes and says there's an error with his IGN so he can get away from people harassing him for trying to sell this crap.

Searching for an open scammr thread...yay found one!!

Anyway, there's a person in Ascalon trying to sell "A little known map secret" for 50K.
I offered to pay this person 100K but only if they show me the secret first.

They replied "give me 50K and i will email you a map with the secret on it"

Sounds to me like they plan on taking 50K and then emailing a keylogger or something just as sinister. Don't be a fool folks.

If it is 10/10 it has to be gold, FYI. I think I have never gotten a perfect mod out of a non gold/purple item

You can post your IGN, heck many people put it underneath their names at the left here.
<----
But, posting other people's names, especially in a negative context, is bad. Just don't do it.

10/10 must be from a gold. I believe the cutoff for purples is 10/6, and I don't really pay attention to blues.

Default Policies and guidelines to follow to prevent being scammed or hacked:

How not to get scammed
------------------------
1-Always take your time looking at items before pressing accept
---->Scammers rely on the fact that:
A People might be in a hurry and rush through trade.
B. People won't take their time to look at what they are buying
C. People don't know what it's supposed to look like.

2-Collector items can be modified don't forget, they are usually pale blue and have perfect mods. But these cost much less to get yourself.
3-If you're buying mods or upgrades never-ever buy weapons that have them on.
----->They are/might be:
A.Collector's items
B.Quest reward items
C.Already Customized to that person(Thus un-salvageable)
D.Have another mod on that might be salvaged instead of the one you want
---->Have the person salavage it first and if s/he does not accept then buy it from someone else (Don't insult they'll just try to scam someone else-If they don't sell they'll stop doing it eventually)

4-Never pay for these.
---->Ex:
1-Running services requiring you to pay before.
2-Information.
3-Names and/or Help
---->You should not need to pay for information. Ask someone else or ask your question in *all* chat to see if anyone else knows.
---->Never accept internet addresses(unless from a guild/person you know), download programs given to you in-game, or trade quest information or names of other characters that might help for cash or items. They are often/if not always scams.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
How not to get hacked

Never give the following information:

1.Your email---->50% of your account is already hacked at this point.
2.Name --->You might have take a chance of giving clues to your password.
3.Never allow anyone else to use your user account.
4. Never give user account information (email/passwords/numers)online.
---->Trojans and Keyloggers might have been uploaded to your computer when you dowloaded information and/or programs.
These can permit someone to find your password(Trojan) and other informations like your email(Keylogger).

Never do the following:

1-Download off a non-official site or non-officialized program anything related in some way to Guild-wars or MMORPs.
2-Accept and open file attachments from an email comming from an in-game player. (Virus scans can rarely detect Keyloggers).
--->If it's an image give him forum addresses and/or ask him to post it visualy in his email. Never ever download !
************************************************** *
FOR FORGE RUNNERS/RUNNED!
Pay 1k at each point. Snake,Camp,Forge. If he does not accept find someone else. 1k at each point should be ok for any Runner through the pass and is totally fair.
MOST IMPORTANT
If you feel bad and or nervous about doing something and are unsure.
You are probably right.
ex.
A runner to Borliss pass (seem very easy no?) asking for 200g.
I felt wierd about him but I tell him I'll pay half here half there.
(You know where this is going )
He goes outside with 3 other people. He then leaves and goes offline. Everyone else lost 200g while I lost 100g only.
I kinda knew but I was willing to try trusing just once.
